Rich People Don't Hussle

Ten reasons why we envy rich folks.

  1. They don’t use those ATM machines in the mall or high street to check their bank balance.

  2. They don’t know their bank balance period.

  3. They do not stand in line in banks or grocery stores.

  4. They don’t know the price of bread.

  5. They don’t know how to clean their rooms.

  6. They don’t have dirty fingernails.

  7. They cannot spell inflation.

  8. They can spell limousine but not public transport.

  9. They don’t understand the term ‘used cars’.

  10. They don’t have scars on their knees and arms from falling down on the playground or trees.

We give rich people bad names like egomaniacs because we envy them. They don't follow the rules most of the time because their money allows them to bend them, legally.

When you come to think of it, egomaniacs and ambitious people are in the same bracket, they want to get ahead.

Here is one definition of egomania: the state of considering yourself to be very important and able to do anything that you want to do.

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/egomania

Dictionary.com defines ambition as: an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment:

Let us go wild and guess the differences between egomaniacs and ambitious people. Egomaniacs are usually self-employed individuals while ambitious people work within specific parameters or company policies.

For example, an ambitious mayor with delusions of being the next Canadian Prime Minister will tread softly bearing in mind her party politics and the electoral law.

Confidence

Egomaniacs speak their mind with no fear of repercussions from anybody, while ambitious people are restricted by company and organisational policies.

Isiah Thomas, who once dominated headlines in his illustrious NBA career uttered words that earned him the label egomania. When asked about how his wife regards his success, he said: she lets Isiah be Isiah. Now that it is pinnacle of confidence.

The two words, egomania and ambition are cut from the same cloth because they share other things besides confidence: self-determination, greed, desire for financial and public recognition success, direct or overt media manipulation, social networking or name dropping.

Madonna, the American singer called her 1990 world tour concert blonde ambition. She is one person who has always loved herself and is not shy about telling the world about it.

Muhammad Ali, the famous American boxer got the nickname the lip for obvious reasons.

Non-Conformists

Refusing to conform to what the majority thinks is appropriate behaviour, is the reason why people are slapped with the egomaniac label.

Muhammad Ali, the American boxer has footprints all over American history. He adopted Islam and changed his name from Cassius Clay.

He was dramatic in the boxing ring and in the changing room. My only fault is that I don't realize how great I really am.

He warned boxers that he stings like a bee, but most of all, he defied American foreign policy by refusing to go to Vietnam, saying he had no problems with the Vietnamese. On 25 June 1967, he was stripped of his heavy weight title for refusing to be drafted into the U.S. army.

Financial Independence

Individuals branded as egomaniacs usually have money in the bank. They are not scared that they will lose their jobs because they said or did something unpatriotic.

Muhammad Ali lost his title for not going to Vietnam to fight for his country. Dennis Rodman, who is famous for his NBA prowess, colourful hair and unconventional clothes, continues to ignore the cold war between the United States and communist countries.

He has visited the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea more than once, and is friends with Kim Jong Un, the head of state.

Richard Branson, the founder of the Virgin Group of companies is a good example of the fine line between egomania and ambition.

The world is his oyster, which makes it difficult to call him an egomaniac because he is killing two birds with one stone: having personal fun with his millions but also selling the Virgin brand.

Ambitious or powerful men have been a favourite Hollywood and Bollywood storyline since the beginning of talkies. Cinema used to be just moving pictures. That is where the name movies come from. They were called talkies when dialogue was added.

Mani Ratnam, director of Dil Se, Yuva, Raavan, Guru, and other films calls his production company, Madras Talkies.

Yoruba Movies and Egomaniacs

Oore Idunu, the 2014 movie from Okin TV deals with a bouquet of issues facing Nigeria today: campus life and what students learn or choose not to learn, graduates who cannot find jobs, Yahoo boys who defraud people on the internet and the connection between musicians and businessmen who get their money by any means necessary.

Oore Idunu, is also about the gray area between egomania and ambition. Yomi Collins, played very well by Damola Olatunji, rents rooms for a year at a hotel where he conducts what Nigerians call Yahoo Yahoo (internet fraud).

Yomi Collins and his friends are Yahoo boys and they have cars and parties to show for it. One day he listens to a singer, Shonsho (Akeem Oyeyemi). Yomi suggests that Shonsho should write a song about him and his wonderful life as a Yahoo boy.

The song takes off like an internet virus and Yomi Collins becomes famous. The movie also examines the music business, piracy, underground distribution and police bribery.

Ordinary people dance to the Yomi Collins but it becomes his downfall. Was it egomania or ambition to want to be immortalized in a song?

Conclusion

When all is said and done, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. The same individual can be called an egomaniac by haters and an ambitious person by fans.
